Autumn in Arkansas

Making it out to Arkansas was quite an experience. I guess I was not thinking very clearly when I bought my tickets because I booked a flight that left at 6am on November 1st. Now Halloween is probably my favorite holiday, and although the reasonable thing to do would have been to forgo Halloween events this year, I just couldn't. Besides, what other opportunities would I have to wear the amazing red leather dress that my mom had leftover from the '80s? So, I decided to power through the evening by going out for drinks, dinner, and then to a house party, only to head home and watch the last episode of Heroes that I had on Netflix before catching a cab to the airport at around 4am. Who needs sleep?
It is now the end of my third day in Arkansas. I am here to visit family and provide moral support for my grandmother as she moves out of the house she has lived in for the past 46 years. It is so beautiful here as all the leaves are vivid shades of red, orange and yellow. It makes me wish we had seasons on the West Coast although I'm pretty sure that I would not do very well with snowy winters considering I can barely handle San Francisco's version of the season.
It is so nice to see family and I cannot believe how much my cousin's little boy, Henry, has grown since the last time I saw him. Karin, my cousin Erik's wife, gets back from Mexico on Wednesday night with their son, Karl, and I cannot wait to see the two of them. Before too long, there will be a third little boy to come visit and my yearly trips out to Arkansas will not be enough to keep up with all of them.
